Missing Pieces, Broken Toys and Lost Toys
We want the children to have fun with the toys from our collection, but members are responsible for the toys that they borrow. Whilst we understand that accidents will happen, there may be fees applied if a toy is damaged, lost or has pieces missing. Members are responsible for the toys they borrow, this includes:
The Toy Library does not provide batteries for toys. It is the borrower's responsibility to provide batteries if required. See the rechargeable battery safety guidelines on the Member Expectations, Terms and Conditions page of our website.
Please let one of our committee members know if there are any issues with any toys they have borrowed, so we can keep our collection engaging and safe.
Missing Pieces
If you are missing pieces, you can re-borrow the toy to locate the missing piece. If you cannot find the missing piece, a fine might apply. The fine value could depend on:
If missing pieces mean a toy is unusable, the toy will be withdrawn from the collection and the member may choose to replace the toy (with the same brand/value toy) or pay a fine up to the cost of replacing the toy.
Damaged Toys
We understand that toys are sometimes broken or damaged during the normal course of play. If it is within your skill set, we are happy for you to fix it yourself. If not, we ask that you let us know as soon as possible, via email or in person. Please also let us know if the toy or packaging is showing signs of wear and tear that could affect its safety or usability.
We, with the help of volunteer fixers, will do our best to mend the toy, however if a toy is damaged beyond repair a committee member will decide whether a fine will be charged to the member responsible. The value of the fine could depend on:
*If a toy breaks due to reasonable wear and tear or poor condition there will be no charge. If a toy is broken due to inappropriate use or neglect including damage by pets, the toy will be withdrawn from the collection and the member may choose to replace the toy (with the same brand/value toy) or pay a fine up to the cost of replacing the toy.
All toys must be returned with the plastic bag/tub they were borrowed with. A fine of $5-$20 may be charged if they are missing or damaged. The value of the fine could depend on:
Lost Toys
If you are missing a toy, you can re-borrow the toy to give you another 2 weeks to locate it. If the toy is permanently lost, you may choose to replace the toy (with the same brand/value toy) or pay a fine up to the cost of replacing the toy. A committee member will decide whether a fine will be charged. The value of the fine could depend on:
Overdue Toys
It's important that you return your toys by the due date so that other members have the opportunity to borrow them, however we understand that life with kids is busy and unpredictable. Please send us a message on Facebook, Instagram or via email and we can extend the borrowing period for you.
Overdue fines have previously been charged; however, we do not want the fear of being fined to stop you from returning the overdue toys. Two of our values are ‘belonging’ and ‘sustainability’. Our goal is to have our members feel welcome and keep our toys circulating as long as possible. If you have any questions about returning overdue toys, please get in touch with us via email, Facebook or Instagram.
